Ferdinand | EducationGhana | July 18 | GES Faces Criticism Over Costly Validation Process and Security Flaws for Newly Posted Teachers
Ghana Education Service (GES) faces backlash from newly posted teachers over costly validation processes and security vulnerabilities in the self-posting system. Calls for reform intensify.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) is under increasing pressure to address significant challenges faced by newly posted teachers during the validation process of their appointments.
Despite the introduction of a self-posting system aimed at allowing teachers to select schools near their families, many are struggling with the financial and logistical burdens associated with the current validation procedures.
Issues with the Current System
The self-posting system, introduced to place teachers in regions where language barriers are minimized and to facilitate proximity to their families, has not lived up to its promises according to many new teachers.
The validation process requires teachers to travel long distances to submit appointment letters and documents at regional offices, incurring significant costs and time.
“The self-posting recruitment module was supposed to help teachers select schools close to their families and support an effective teaching and learning environment,” stated the Director-General of GES on July 4, 2024. However, the teachers argue that this rationale has fallen short.
Teachers’ Appeals and Suggestions
Teachers are calling on GES to streamline the validation process by directing regional offices to issue necessary letters to district and municipal levels during their first visit, thereby eliminating the need for multiple trips.
This change, they believe, would alleviate the financial hardship currently faced by many.
Security Vulnerabilities in the Self-Posting Portal
Compounding these issues, a security vulnerability has been identified in the self-posting portal.
Reports indicate that unauthorized individuals can access applicants’ accounts and make selections on their behalf without consent, simply by knowing their index number.
Teachers have recommended that GES introduce additional security measures, such as replacing the One-Time Password (OTP) system with a unique password known only to the legitimate applicant.
This change would prevent unauthorized access and ensure the integrity of the application process.

Response and Future Actions
As of now, GES has yet to respond to the teachers’ appeals for both a more efficient validation process and enhanced security measures. The situation has sparked widespread concern about the welfare of newly posted teachers and the effectiveness of the current systems in place.
The growing unrest among teachers highlights the urgent need for GES to address these issues promptly. Ensuring a streamlined, secure, and cost-effective process is crucial for the well-being of teachers and the overall quality of education in Ghana.
