Ferdinand | EducationGhana | May 21 |GES Boss Prof. Kofi Davis Announces Bold Reforms to Boost Credibility of 2025 BECE School Selection
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kofi Davis, has introduced targeted reforms to strengthen transparency and accountability in the 2025 BECE school selection process.
Transparent Processes for Equitable Placement
Prof. Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), used the 2025 BECE School Selection Guidelines launch to announce key administrative and technological reforms aimed at improving placement accuracy and restoring public trust. He emphasized that GES is deploying upgraded software that automates cross-checking of candidate data to minimize human error and bias in placement.
Reinforcing the Role of Parents
A major highlight of his presentation was the insistence that no headteacher or teacher should fill out school selection forms on behalf of a candidate without written consent from a parent or guardian. Prof. Davis reiterated that parents must remain the primary decision-makers in this process, and their signatures on the form are non-negotiable.
Training and Monitoring Nationwide
GES, under his direction, will roll out an intensive nationwide training exercise for school heads and district education directors. Monitoring teams will be deployed across all 16 regions to ensure compliance with the new guidelines. Schools found to be flouting these rules may face administrative sanctions.
Digital Verification of Choices
Another innovation announced was the introduction of a digital verification portal, where students and parents can confirm their selected schools via SMS or online using a unique BECE index number. This step aims to curb incidents of form tampering or incorrect submissions by intermediaries.

Appeals and Resolution Process Improved
Prof. Davis noted that the appeals window for school placements would now be more streamlined. A dedicated hotline and regional help desks will be established to address complaints within a 5-day resolution period after placement results are released.
Concluding Summary:
GES, led by Prof. Kofi Davis, is introducing a proactive and transparent approach to the 2025 BECE school selection process. From digital verification and nationwide training to enforcing parental consent and swift complaint resolution, these reforms are intended to empower students, engage families, and uphold the integrity of Ghana’s basic education system.
