The Ghana Education Service (GES) has appointed Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II as Director for Schools and Instruction (Pre-Secondary), bringing decades of leadership across districts, regions, and national education policy.

GES Confirms Key Pre-Secondary Appointment

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the appointment of Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II as Director for Schools and Instruction (Pre-Secondary).

The appointment places her at the centre of national oversight for early childhood and basic instruction delivery.

GES described the appointment as a strategic move aimed at strengthening instructional quality, policy coherence, and school performance across the pre-secondary sector.

A Career Spanning District, Regional, and National Leadership

Before her elevation to the national role, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II served as Regional Director of Education for the Bono East Region.

Earlier, she made history as the inaugural Substantive Regional Director of Education for the Oti Region.

Her leadership across two regions later earned her the position of Dean of the Conference of Regional Directors of Education, Ghana (CONREDE-GH), a role that placed her at the forefront of inter-regional coordination and policy dialogue.

Proven Impact at the District Level

Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II also served as District Director of Education for Afadzato South, where she oversaw measurable improvements in learning outcomes.

BECE pass rates rose significantly within a short period under her administration.   Colleagues and stakeholders have often cited her emphasis on standards, discipline, and accountability as key drivers of these gains.

This reputation earned her the informal but widely recognised title, “Nana Director.”
