The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated a reconstituted 13-member Governing Council for the University of Cape Coast (UCC) at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of Education in Accra.

The newly formed Council is chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice, Justice William Anaam Atuguba, who brings a wealth of legal and administrative experience to the university’s top decision-making body.

Other members of the Council include Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Vice-Chancellor of UCC; Dr. Abdul Nasser Alidu and Ms. Shika Acolatse, both nominated by the Government of Ghana.

The Convocation is represented by Prof. Eric Anane (Professorial) and Anastasia Asante (Esq) (Non-Professorial), while Dr. Jerry Opoku-Ansah serves as the representative for the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), UCC branch.

The student body is represented by Abraham Norman Nortey, an undergraduate student, and Mr. Robert Ipiin Gnankob, a postgraduate student. Mr. Samuel Danso Akoto represents the Alumni Association.

Further representation includes Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC); Mr. Mohammed A. Quantson from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS); and Mr. Benjamin Mensah-Gorman, representing the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU).

The Registrar of UCC, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye (Esq), will serve as the Secretary to the Governing Council.

The inauguration of the new Council marks a critical step toward enhancing governance, academic excellence, and institutional development at one of Ghana’s leading public universities.
