A 29-year-old woman, identified as Esther Amoah, died instantly after being run over by a cement truck near St. Mary’s Boys SHS on the Apowa–Agona Nkwanta Highway. Police have detained the driver as investigations continue.

Tragic Road Incident Claims the Life of Young Insurance Agent

A 29-year-old woman lost her life last Saturday in a devastating accident on the Apowa–Agona Nkwanta Highway in the Western Region. The victim, identified as Esther Amoah, worked as an insurance agent and had visited her younger brother at St. Mary’s Boys Senior High School shortly before the incident.Police confirmed that she was struck and run over by a Benz truck loaded with cement, marked AS 630 P. She died on the spot.

Victim Was Returning Home After Visiting Brother

According to preliminary information, Esther had gone to deliver food to her younger brother, who is a student at St. Mary’s Boys SHS. She was attempting to cross the road near the school’s entrance when the crash occurred.Eyewitnesses said she appeared to hesitate because two vehicles were approaching from opposite directions. In that moment of confusion, the oncoming truck hit her and dragged her beneath its wheels.Her food flask was still clutched in her hand after the accident. Items in her bag, including identification cards and contact numbers, assisted bystanders in reaching her family.

Eyewitness Account Describes Distressing Scene

Isaac Conduah, who witnessed the incident, recounted the sequence of events.He said he and others were standing near the school entrance waiting to cross the road. As Esther attempted to cross, the movement of two vehicles from different directions appeared to distract her. Before she could step back to safety, the cement truck struck her.Conduah noted that the scene left many shaken, especially students who saw the aftermath. He added that some bystanders searched her bag to trace her family, leading to the identification of her relatives.

Police Confirm Driver in Custody

Police have detained the driver of the truck and opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.The authorities are conducting interviews and assessing the scene to determine whether speeding, mechanical failure or other factors contributed to the crash.

Community in Shock as Family Mourns

The death of the young woman has caused deep grief among family, friends and members of the school community. Residents along the Apowa–Agona Nkwanta stretch have renewed calls for improved road safety measures near the entrances of schools, including speed-calming devices and stronger pedestrian protection.As investigations continue, the family is left to mourn a loss described by neighbours as painful and unexpected.
