Mandate of the Nursing and Midwifery Council
The name of the Council changed from Nurses and Midwives Council of Ghana as provided for in the NRCD 117 of 1972 and LI 683 of 1971. during 2013 to the Nursing and Midwifery Council following the enactment of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).
Part Three of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857) mandates the council to secure the highest standards of training and practice of Nursing and Midwifery in the public interest. The LI 683 is also being reviewed.
Universities Offering Bachelor Degree in Midwifery in Ghana in 2023
University for Development Studies(Tamale Campus), Tamale
It was established in May 1992 by the government of Ghana. The institution aims to promote communities’ equitable and socio-economic transformation through practically oriented, community-based, problem-solving, gender-sensitive and interactive research, teaching, learning and outreach activities.
The university has five campuses namely:
(i)Nyankpala campus
(ii)Wa campus
(iii)Tamale campus
(iv)Navrange campus2.
2. the University of Health and Allied sciences, HO
The university was established by an Act of Parliament (ACT 828 of December 2011) as a public university in Ghana.
The main campus including the central administration is in Ho. The university aims at providing education in the Health Sciences through teaching and research.The institution helps to aim at providing clinical and other skills services to contribute positively to improving the health status and overall quality of life.

3. University of Ghana, Legon

4. Garden City University College, Kumasi
The Garden City University College was established as the College of Information Technology and Management Systems (CITMAS) in 2001 and was after due accreditation, granted permission to operate as a University College in January 2004.
The university has the following faculties available:

(iii)Health and Applied Sciences

5. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi
This institution was established in October 1952 after succeeding the Kumasi College of Technology which was established by a Government Ordinance. The university is governed by the three pillars below:
