NSMQ 2023 brought another exciting day of intellectual competition to the Saarah-Mensah Auditorium. On Day 4, October 9, 2023, three schools were in the spotlight: Achimota School, Notre Dame Girls’ SHS, and St. Francis Girls’ SHS.

24 points for Achimota beating St. Francis and Notre Dame.

In Round One, Achimota School started strong by answering five bonus questions, along with five questions where the Quiz Mistress Dr. Thelma Ohene-Agyei ruled two out of three in their favor.

Notre Dame Girls’ SHS matched this performance by getting their first five questions right. At this point, St. Francis Girls’ SHS struggled to catch up, with one unanswered question. Achimota was the only school to answer the alcohol question correctly. They also aced a bonus question that Notre Dame missed.

As the round ended, Achimota led comfortably with 24 points, while St. Francis Girls’ SHS trailed with 3 points, and Notre Dame Girls’ SHS managed 18 points.

Elagbe Walter and Kenneth Bakhita leads with 38 points at speed race.

In the Speed Race, no school managed to answer the initial set of questions. Amazingly, Achimota found their momentum and got back to winning ways by responding to a series of questions.

They led with 38 points. Notre Dame matched Achimota on one occasion but ended with 18 points. Both schools also challenged questions, affecting the contest’s dynamics. St. Francis Girls’ SHS scored only two (2) points, making it mainly a competition between Achimota and Notre Dame.

Notre Dame maintains high hopes for an excellent performance in the day’s problem.

Notre Dame simplified the problem of the day and competed closely with Achimota in a tie. Notre Dame Girls’ scored a perfect 10 out of 10, demonstrating an excellent performance.

However, Achimota almost missed a point after raising concerns about the clarity of the problem presented by the Quiz Mistress. Despite this, they managed to secure a favourable 10 out of 10 for this round.

Achimota was highly excited about their performance, leading with an impressive 48 points overall. Notre Dame, with their intriguing performance, achieved a total of 28 points. Meanwhile, St. Francis still lagged behind at 10 points, despite gaining an extra 2 marks, while their rivals continue to advance in the game.

Achimota gained a point in the True False round, while Notre Dame and St. Francis each scored one question correctly. Notre Dame continued to perform well, securing more correct answers, but Achimota missed a few. As the round concluded, St. Francis added 7 points, totaling 17 points, Notre Dame stood at 38 points, and Achimota led with 54 points. This round was closely contested, with Achimota holding a 16-point lead over Notre Dame.

GHS 2000 cash prize awarded to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame’s exceptional intellectual performance earned them a well-deserved cash prize of GHS 2000 for their outstanding delivery in the problem of the day contest.

Prudential Life Insurance presents NSMQ Star Winner to Achimota.

Achimota school also won the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star award worth GHS 2000 cash prize for their perfect score in the Problem of the Day.

Achimota School wins the academic bout at Saarah-Mensah Auditorium.

The final round brought some excitement as Notre Dame was the first school to solve the riddle correctly. Achimota quickly followed with a correct answer, while St. Francis struggled under the pressure. Achimota finished strong, answering the last question about Zinc Oxide in a captivating manner, solidifying their lead in this round. They were 19 points ahead of Notre Dame and a notable 43 points ahead of St. Francis, securing a magnificent total of 60 points. Kudos to Achimota SHS for their excellent performance today! Unfortunately, St. Francis and Notre Dame did not qualify for the one-eighth stage. At this point, only the top-runners-up card could save well-performing Notre Dame Girls’ school. Fingers crossed, as time will determine their fate.

Expression of excitement for Achimota satisfying the school’s expectation to qualify.
