Twenty students of ADASCO have been dismissed after sneaking out to swim in a river, leading to the tragic drowning of one student. Authorities launch investigation.

Breaking: ADASCO Dismisses 20 Students Over Unauthorized River Swimming Incident

Authorities at the Ada Senior High School (ADASCO) in Ada have taken disciplinary action against 20 students who sneaked out of school to swim in a nearby river, resulting in the tragic death of one student.

The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred when the group, defying school rules, left campus without permission to swim in the Pra River, a spot known for its unpredictable currents. The situation turned tragic when one student drowned and could not be rescued in time.

School Authorities Respond Swiftly

In an official statement released by the school, the administration confirmed that all 20 students involved in the unauthorized outing have been dismissed for gross misconduct and endangering lives.

“The school has a duty to protect its students, but this level of defiance and recklessness cannot be overlooked,” the statement read.

The identity of the deceased student has been withheld pending official communication with the family.

Police and GES Begin Investigations

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been notified, and local police have launched an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings indicate the students used an opening in the school’s fence to sneak out during prep hours.

Authorities say they will be examining supervision lapses and have promised to enhance safety measures to prevent similar incidents.

Public Reactions and Parental Concerns

The incident has sparked nationwide concern over student safety and indiscipline in boarding schools.

“Why would such a large group leave unnoticed? What measures failed?” a concerned parent asked in a radio interview.

Parents and education stakeholders are calling for psychosocial support for traumatized students and a review of security protocols in boarding schools across the country.

What’s Next?

  • GES is expected to issue a directive on preventive strategies in boarding schools.

  • ADASCO will likely face scrutiny over its monitoring and disciplinary systems.

  • Funeral arrangements for the deceased student are yet to be announced.
