Professors Charity Akotia and Emmanuel Nii-Boye Quarshie donate 12 psychology books to Balme Library, enhancing academic resources on self-harm prevention and women’s experiences in psychology.

 


Two distinguished professors from the Department of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Prof. Charity Akotia and Prof. Emmanuel Nii-Boye Quarshie, have donated 12 books to the Balme Library to enhance academic resources for students and researchers.

Books Donated and Their Significance

The donation includes:

  • 10 copies of Women in Psychology in Ghana by Prof. Charity Akotia.
  • 2 copies of Self-Harm: A Guide to Management by Prof. Emmanuel Nii-Boye Quarshie.

During the handover ceremony, Prof. Quarshie emphasized that his book was developed to address self-harm and suicide prevention, particularly in low- and middle-income contexts, where awareness and support systems are often limited.

On her part, Prof. Akotia highlighted that her book sheds light on the challenges faced by women in psychology as they balance professional ambitions with family commitments. She expressed optimism that the book would serve as inspiration for young women entering the field.

Receiving the books, Acting Librarian, Mr. Samuel Bentil Aggrey, noted that the donation aligns with the University’s fifth Strategic Priority of Sustainable Resource Mobilisation and Stewardship.
