The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has held a solemn memorial service on Wednesday, 29th March, 2023, to pay tribute to the late Mrs. Joana Antwi Donkor, a beloved member of the Faculty of Home Economics Education.
Mrs. Joana Donkor was known for her dedication and contributions to the field of education and was deeply respected by her colleagues and students alike.
The memorial service was held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North campus, Winneba. Attendees were management members of the UEW, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mawutor Avoke; the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori Birikorang; the Finance Officer, Dr. Senyo Akorlie; and the Ag. Registrar, Mrs. Wilhelmina Tete-Mensah.
The ceremony saw various groups paying tribute to the late Mrs. Joana Donkor, including the UEW Branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), the St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Winneba, and the Faculty of Home Economics Education, UEW.
For those who knew Mrs. Joana Donkor, her passing was a profound loss. Her dedication to her students and her passion for education left an indelible mark on those around her. One colleague remarked, “Mrs. Joana Donkor was a beacon of light to us all, and her spirit will continue to guide us as we carry on her legacy.” Another student shared, “Mrs. Joana Donkor was more than just a teacher. She was a mentor and a friend, always there to listen and offer guidance.”
The memorial service was a testament to the profound impact that Mrs. Joana Antwi Donkor had on her family, colleagues, and the university community at large. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide generations to come, as they strive to make a positive impact in the lives of others, just as she did. As the final burial and funeral rites for Mrs. Donkor take place on Saturday, 1st April, 2023, at the St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Gomoa Akotsi, and she is laid to rest at the Akotsi Community Cemetery, her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew her.
Mrs. Joana Antwi Donkor’s passing is a reminder of the importance of recognising the contributions of dedicated educators. Educators like Mrs Donkor play an essential role in shaping the minds and futures of generations to come, and their legacy lives on through the impact they have on their students and communities. It is a testament to the impact of her life that so many were moved to attend the memorial service and share their tributes and eulogies.
