Ferdinand | EducationGhana | April 30| TTAG Laments Exclusion from Committee on New Teacher Licensing Policy
The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has expressed deep disappointment over the Ministry of Education’s decision to exclude it from a newly formed committee tasked with reviewing the implementation of the government’s revised teacher licensing policy.
In a press release dated April 27, 2025, TTAG stated that the decision to form the committee without any representation from teacher trainees is not only disheartening but also undermines the critical role they play in shaping the future of Ghana’s education system.
The Ministry plans to integrate Professional Licensing Exams into Pre-Service Teacher Training and replace the traditional six-hour paper-based exams with a new portfolio-based assessment model. While TTAG supports this progressive move and has long advocated for such reforms, the association noted that its exclusion from the process casts doubt on its ability to contribute meaningfully.
“It undermines our contribution to the reshaping process of the GTLE and our ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of this new framework,” the statement read.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to ensure that the licensure process remains a credible tool for assessing teacher competence and promoting educational quality in Ghana.
TTAG concluded by pledging continued advocacy to protect the interests of its members and ensure their voices are heard in critical education policy decisions.
