Ferdinand | EducationGhana | July 02| Toase SHS Headmaster Debunks Claims of Demanding a Goat from Final-Year Students
The Headmaster of Toase Senior High School has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that final-year students were asked to provide a goat for their Biology practical exam.
Headmaster Clarifies “Goat for Practicals” Rumour at Toase SHS
The Headmaster of Toase Senior High School (TOSS) in the Ashanti Region has categorically denied allegations that the school demanded a goat from final-year students to facilitate their Biology practical examination.
The rumour, which gained traction on social media earlier this week, suggested that students sitting for the 2025 WASSCE were instructed to contribute a live goat to be used during the Biology practical component—a claim that sparked public concern and ridicule.
“False and Misleading”—School ”Authorities Respond
In an interview with local media, the headmaster described the allegations as false, misleading, and damaging to the school’s reputation.
“At no point did we instruct or authorize students to bring or contribute a goat for any academic purpose. The Ghana Education Service (GES) and WAEC guidelines are strictly adhered to during examinations, and no such practice has occurred,” he emphasized.
He further explained that materials and specimens for science practicals are procured in line with WAEC protocols, with support from the school’s internally generated funds and government subventions—not from student contributions.
GES Ashanti Reacts
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has also launched an internal inquiry into the matter. Preliminary findings affirm that no such directive was issued and that all examination activities at Toase SHS are being conducted in accordance with national standards.
GES has urged the public to be cautious about unverified information and encouraged anyone with genuine concerns to use the appropriate communication channels.
Social Media and Misinformation
The viral nature of the allegation once again highlights the risks of misinformation in Ghana’s education sector, especially during the sensitive WASSCE period.
Educational stakeholders have called for responsible reporting and better fact-checking mechanisms before issues are shared online.
