EducationGhana| November 24| TM 1 Laptop Fact Check: A fact-checked by EduicationGhana has confirmed that the amount of money being deducted by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) as part payment of GH¢1,550 was above the expected deductions to be executed per the contracted cost of the TM 1 Laptop.

The Ministry of Education in a November 23, 2021 press statement categorically indicated, that the exact cost of the TM 1 Laptop was GH¢1,550.

”An approval to use Single-Sourced procurement method to engage KA Technologies for the supply of the computers at a unit cost of GHS 1550 in accordance with Section 40(1) (d) of Act 663 as amended was communicated to the Ministry in a letter dated 20 November, 2020.” The statement said.
It was however not clear why theministry of education’s unit price was different from that of Ghana Education Service and what some of the unions are quoting .
GES Cost of Laptop

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a new cost of the famous ”One Teacher, One Laptop” Initiative against the cost being issued by the Deputy Education Minister.

The GES in a statement issued on September 9, 2021, indicates that the total cost of the Teacher Mate 1(TM1 ) Laptop per one is GH¢1,831.47.

The GES said the government absorbed GH¢1,282.30 While each teacher will pay GH¢549.44.

The GES added, that the teachers’ portion will be deducted from their Continous Professional Development Allowance (CPD) when paid and would be a one-off deduction.
