The Ghana Education Service(GES) has reduced the contact hours for learners at the Kindergarten (KG) and Primary levels amidst the covid-19 pandemic.
The GES in a meeting with the leadership of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) prior to the reopening of schools indicated, that KG1 – P 6 will start classes from 8:00 am and close at 12:pm.

Junior High Schools(JHS)
The meeting indicated that the JHS will close at their normal time before the emergence of covid-19.
The meeting entreated teachers to ensure that all areas at the various levels lost are covered.

Re-opening of schools
According to the meeting, schools all over the country will resume on the 18/1/2021.
Fumigation and COVID-19
According to the meeting, all covid-19 protocols must be observed in the schools, of which Schools shall be disinfected across the country.
The government is expected to provide Personal Protection Equipments (PPEs) for schools.
Social Gatherings
The meeting emphasized that all forms of gatherings in the schools and other activities will not be allowed in the schools.
Semester/Trimester Programs
The meeting indicated, that JHS now will be converted to a semester system to be aligned with the SHS system, whilst the KG1-P6 will however continue with the trimester system.
CCP Curriculum
All students in JHS 1 – SHS 1 shall run a Common Core Programme called CCP which comprises of 9 subjects; namely – Maths, Languages, Science, RME (stand-alone subject), Physical and Health Education (not examinable) , Career Technology, Social Studies, Computing and Creative Art and Design.
