Public basic schools across Ghana have officially reopened for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic year, as attention shifts to curriculum delivery, assessments, and key dates on the academic calendar.
Public basic schools across Ghana today resumed academic activities for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a return to classrooms for millions of pupils and teachers nationwide. The reopening applies to kindergartens, primary schools, and junior high schools under the Ghana Education Service (GES), following the end of the first term break.Education authorities say the second term is a decisive phase in the school calendar, as it consolidates teaching and learning begun in the first term and prepares pupils for end-of-term assessments and national examinations.

Why the Second Term Matters

The second term is particularly critical for final-year pupils at the junior high school level, who are expected to intensify preparation toward the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). For lower primary and kindergarten pupils, the term places strong emphasis on foundational literacy, numeracy, and continuous assessment.School heads have been reminded to ensure effective instructional supervision, regular attendance, and safe school environments, while teachers are encouraged to maintain steady curriculum coverage in line with approved syllabuses.Parents and guardians have also been urged to support punctual school attendance and provide basic learning materials to aid smooth academic progress.
