The Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) , Mr. Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, has said that Private Junior High Schools (JHS) in the country shall not implement the Semester system being introduced by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr Gyetuah made this revelation on a Summer Radio Saturday morning show THE FORUM hosted by Ellis Ferdinand on Saturday, January 09, 2021.
Speaking on the subject matter, the GNACOPS boss said the Private JHS Students shall maintain the trimester system as being implemented at the Kindergarten and Primary Schools.

Duration
According to Enoch, if the purpose of the semester system was to recover the lost periods, the private schools were able to design a time table using the trimester system to achieve the same purpose.
He indicated, that the semester system has seen the JHS students spending about 39 to 42 weeks per semester to be able to recover the lost periods due to COVID-19.
This he added, that the Private Schools also used the Trimester System to recover the, lost periods using 49 weeks,

Liberty
He indicated, that the private schools have the liberty to determine their space of learning but should most importantly be geared towards the attainment of the set goals and objectives enshrined in the Basic Schools Curriculum.
He added, that whether a school uses a semester or trimester system, the main target should be achieving the learning outcomes of learners.
Timetable
Enoch said the private schools have come out with a designed timetable which uses the trimester system.

Challenges
The GNACOPS Boss was emphatic, that there shall be operational challenges with the implementation of the Semester system at the private Junior High Schools.
He added, that the semester system shall have a traumatised issue with the children.
According to him, though they are not against change, the trimester program was for a purpose of which should be well implemented.
