Ghana’s landmark No Fees Stress policy sees 40,233 students reimbursed and over 175,000 students engaging the portal. Here’s the full update on the transformative tertiary education initiative.
Over 40,000 Tertiary Students Reimbursed Under Ghana’s No Fees Stress Policy
In a significant milestone for Ghana’s education sector, 40,233 tertiary students have already been reimbursed under the government’s flagship No Fees Stress Policy, launched by President John Dramani Mahama in July 2025.
According to verified figures from the Ministry of Education, the policy—designed to eliminate academic user fees for first-year students—has seen over 175,000 students access the online portal, with tens of thousands completing applications.
Breakdown of the No Fees Stress Progress (as of July 10, 2025):
- ✅ 40,233 students reimbursed
- 🔎 60,756 validated for payment
- 📝 151,492 completed applications
- 🌐 175,094 total student logins to the portal
The programme is aimed at ensuring financial equity and inclusion, especially for students from underserved backgrounds entering public tertiary institutions in the 2025/2026 academic year.
Policy Impact and Support Mechanisms
The No Fees Stress policy goes beyond fee absorption. The government—through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF)—has also increased its financial envelope, with a GETFund allocation boost from GH¢70m to GH¢150m as announced by the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.
This support complements SLTF’s role in funding newly admitted students, especially those who cannot access upfront capital to pay for university enrolment.
Speaking at the launch event in Koforidua, President Mahama declared:
“From today, no Ghanaian child will be denied tertiary education simply because they cannot afford the academic fees.”
The Ministry is expected to complete validations for pending applicants before the academic year begins. All successful applicants will be notified via SMS or email, and payment processes will follow through their institutional accounts or designated bank channels.

Students are encouraged to regularly visit the No Fees Stress Portal and check for updates. Institutions have also been asked to assist students with documentation and verification.
