GES Confirms 2026 BECE Dates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has formally announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be held from Monday, 4 May 2026 through Monday, 11 May 2026. All candidates, parents, teachers and education stakeholders are encouraged to take note and make adequate preparations.

What the Dates Mean for Stakeholders

The eight-day examination window provides time for candidates to sit for all required papers under the oversight of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). GES has emphasised that the official subject timetable will be communicated in due course once WAEC completes its scheduling.Teachers and heads of junior high schools are advised to finalise revision schedules, ensure full coverage of the curriculum and remind pupils of exam rules and conduct expectations.Parents are urged to support their wards with study plans, reliable rest, appropriate meals and a quiet environment for preparation. Early registration and submission of candidate data should already have been completed by schools.

Background Context

The BECE is Ghana’s national terminal examination for Basic Education Certificate candidates, typically administered by WAEC in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service. This date announcement aligns with the approved 2025/26 academic calendar for basic schools.
