Odorgonno SHS represents Ga Central in the 2025 School Farm Competition with an impressive irrigated onion farm, showcasing innovation, sustainability, and youth in agribusiness.
🚜 Cultivating Excellence Through Innovation
Odorgonno Senior High School has emerged as one of the standout participants in the 2025 National School Farm Competition, representing the Ga Central District in the Greater Accra Region.
Their entry? A thriving onion farm powered by an efficient irrigation system, symbolizing innovation and the power of agribusiness education in transforming communities.
🌿 A Model for Youth-Led Agribusiness
The onion farm, cultivated on the school’s dedicated plot, was designed and maintained by students and staff, supported by:
- Kosmos Innovation Center
- Kosmos Energy Ghana
- Mastercard Foundation
The project stands as a living classroom for practical agricultural education, and a blueprint for climate-smart farming in Ghanaian schools.
“The students are not just farming—they’re innovating,” said one agriculture tutor. “They understand irrigation, crop cycles, and entrepreneurship.”
💡 Why This Matters
This initiative is part of a broader movement to position school agriculture as a solution to youth unemployment and food insecurity in Ghana. It aligns with national efforts by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and GES to embed agribusiness training in the pre-tertiary curriculum.
Odorgonno SHS’s project demonstrates:
- Efficient water use through drip irrigation
- Youth engagement in food production
- Real-world application of STEM in agriculture
