Central Region Surprise: Nyakrom SHTS Tops Contest with 64 Points

Nyakrom Senior High Technical School (Nyakrom SHTS) has secured a sensational first-time qualification to the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2025, after dominating their zonal contest with a staggering 64 points.

Here’s how the final scores looked:

Nyakrom SHTS – 64 pts 🏆
Fettehman SHS – 19 pts
Diaso SHS – 16 pts
T.I. Amass, Potsin – 15 pts

This is Nyakrom’s debut appearance at the national stage — a feat that also makes them the first SHS in Agona West Municipality to qualify for both the Regional and National Championships.

A Historic Breakthrough for Agona West

For many in the Agona West District, this victory signals a turning point. Nyakrom SHTS, often underestimated in previous competitions, has now written their name into the NSMQ annals with a performance that rivals some of the country’s best.

🎙 “This means everything to us — it’s not just about science, it’s about rising from the shadows,” said Mr. Benjamin Essuman, the team’s coach.

What Drove Their Victory?

The team’s outstanding display came from months of early-morning practice sessions, simulated quizzes, and relentless tutoring in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Nyakrom SHTS’s 64-point win puts them among the highest-scoring schools in the Central Region so far — rivaling top contenders like:

Obiri Yeboah SHS (34 pts)
Mankessim SHTS (47 pts)

What’s Next for Nyakrom?

The journey is only beginning. Nyakrom SHTS will return for the Central Regional Championship Finals, and then proceed to represent the region on the national stage at NSMQ 2025.

They’ll face giants like:

St. Augustine’s College (defending national contenders)
Mfantsipim School
Adisadel College
