As the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz heats up, 28 schools have secured qualification to the one-eighth stage, with Ashanti and Eastern Regions leading the pack in outstanding performances across the preliminaries.

The 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has entered its most competitive phase yet, as 28 senior high schools have officially advanced to the one-eighth stage following two days of thrilling preliminary contests held across various auditoriums at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The preliminary stage, which began on Monday, October 20, has already produced several record-breaking performances and stunning upsets, reaffirming the NSMQ’s tradition of academic excellence, precision, and strategy.


Ashanti and Eastern Regions Dominate the Qualification Table

The Ashanti Region has once again demonstrated its academic might, producing eight qualifiers, including Our Lady of Grace SHS (71 pts), Amaniampong SHS (69 pts), Kumasi High School (67 pts), and Kumasi Academy (59 pts).

The Eastern Region follows closely with six schools, including Ofori Panin SHS, which currently tops the national chart with 79 points, the highest score so far in the competition. Other strong performers from the region include Abetifi Presby SHS, Tafo SHS, Aburi Girls’ SHS, Presby SHS Suhum, and Benkum SHS, one of the top runners-up.

Sogakope SHS also made history as the highest-scoring Volta-Oti representative, signaling a resurgence of southern zone schools in the competition.
