North Tongu MP Unveils Smart Classrooms to Boost STEM Learning

Ferdinand EducationGhana | January 05 | North Tongu MP Unveils Smart Classrooms to Boost STEM Learning

North Tongu, Ghana – Students in North Tongu are now stepping into the future. On December 26, 2025, MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa commissioned two cutting-edge smart classrooms at BASEC and ABAST Senior High Schools, designed to transform STEM education in rural communities. “These classrooms bring global standards to our local schools. Students here will now learn with the same tools as their peers in the cities,” Ablakwa said.

What Makes These Classrooms Smart?

The newly commissioned classrooms are equipped with:

  1. Smart boards – Interactive lessons and visual learning.
  2. Tablets with tailored educational content – Personalised STEM learning at every desk.
  3. High-speed internet – Unlimited research and access to global resources.
  4. Solar panels – Continuous, sustainable power supply even in rural areas.

With these tools, students can now apply STEM concepts practically, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

A Strong Partnership Driving Innovation

The project is a collaboration between local leadership and international partners:

  • Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa: Funded classroom infrastructure upgrades.
  • Chinese Ambassador H.E. Tong Defa: Supplied STEM equipment and solar panels.

“This partnership ensures our students can compete globally while learning about renewable energy and digital technology,” Ablakwa said.

Why This Matters for Rural Schools

Experts note the initiative will:

  • Narrow the urban-rural education divide
  • Promote hands-on STEM skills
  • Introduce students to sustainable energy concepts
  • Inspire 21st-century digital literacy

Teachers and students praised the classrooms as a game-changer, giving rural learners access to technology and educational resources previously only available in cities.
