GES Declares January 23, 2026 as National CPD Day
The Ghana Education Service has officially declared Friday, January 23, 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development Day to allow teachers across the country to participate in structured capacity-building activities.
The declaration was issued by Management of GES in recognition of the central role continuous professional development plays in improving teaching quality and safeguarding the education system.
Holiday for Learners, Mandatory Training for Teachers
As part of the directive, January 23, 2026, has been declared a holiday for all learners in basic and second-cycle institutions nationwide.
Teachers, however, are expected to participate fully in Phase Two of the Cybersecurity and Data Protection training, which is designed to strengthen professional capacity without disrupting classroom instruction.
According to GES, dedicating a full day ensures institutional support and uninterrupted engagement for all teachers.
Nationwide Compliance Directed
GES Management has directed all Regional Directors of Education to inform Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, as well as Heads of Basic Schools and Second Cycle Institutions, to comply strictly with the directive.
The instruction is intended to ensure uniform implementation across the country and avoid inconsistencies at the school level.
Strengthening Teacher Capacity Through CPD
The National CPD Day aligns with Ghana’s broader teacher professional development framework under the Ghana Education Service, which emphasizes digital literacy, data protection, and professional ethics in schools. More information on CPD standards is outlined by the Ghana Education Service, supported by policy direction from the Ministry of Education and global best practices promoted by UNESCO.
The move reflects ongoing efforts to modernize teaching practice while protecting both teachers and learners in an increasingly digital learning environment.
