Ferdinand EducationGhana | September 17 | Ministry of Education Integrates Private Senior High Schools Into Free SHS Policy for 2025 BECE Selection

Discover the official list of approved private senior high schools in Ghana for the 2025 BECE selection. These institutions are now part of the Free SHS policy, offering more choices to students and guardians.

In a significant expansion of the educational landscape, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have announced the inclusion of numerous private Senior High Schools into the national school selection process for the 2025 academic year.

This development permits prospective students who have undertaken the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to select these institutions as part of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), with tuition fees covered under the government’s Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy.

This initiative represents a strategic move to widen access to quality secondary education by integrating vetted private institutions into the public educational framework.

Each school on the published list has undergone rigorous assessment and has met the requisite criteria set forth by the GES, ensuring they provide standards commensurate with the national curriculum and the objectives of the FSHS programme.

For guardians and students, this affords a considerably broader range of options. Those with preferences for specialised programmes, particular pedagogical approaches, or institutions in closer proximity to their residences may now select from an augmented list of establishments without forfeiting access to government subsidies.

Imperatives for a Successful Selection Process

It is of paramount importance that guardians and students exercise meticulous attention to detail during the school selection exercise. The accurate utilisation of the official school codes and the correct spelling of school names are indispensable for ensuring a successful placement via the CSSPS platform. Any discrepancy may result in placement complications.

This policy enhancement is anticipated to alleviate placement pressures on traditional public schools and foster a collaborative ecosystem between public and private educational providers, all aimed at improving educational outcomes for the Ghanaian youth.
