JUST IN: Textbooks on New Curriculum to be ready by January 2021 – GES

NACCA GALOP GES CURRICULUM TEACHERS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said that Textbooks on the New Standard-Based Curriculum for Kindergarten and Primary Schools shall be ready by January 2021.

The GES said this at a meeting with the National Leadership of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) held at its Headquarters prior to the October 5, 2020 reopening of Schools for form 2 JHS and SHS students.

According to the GES, the Government develops Curriculum and individuals or companies write books for the government to purchase.

The GES added that Valuation was ongoing and by January 2021 the textbooks will be ready at all Schools in the Country.

Resumption of Schools

The GES reminded the heads that JHS 2 students are to resume on 5th October, 2020 to 14th December, 2020 and continue the protocol laid down for the JHS 3.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured parents, teachers and all stakeholders of a successful implementation of all COVID-19 Protocols as Form 2  Junior High School (JHS ) and Senior High school (SHS) students resume Monday, October 5, 2020.

The purpose of the resumption is to complete their Third Term and Second Semester of their Academic Years respectively.

BECE Registration

The GES said all heads should endeavour to use their capitation grants to cater for the Administrative Cost of 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Registration.

Though the capitation grants have not been paid, the GES assured the heads of schools that Capitation Grant is been worked on for release as soon as possible.

Assessment

With Assessment of the JHS 2 Students, the Ghana Education Service said Exams Committees should sit down for exams modalities to ensure there is assessment.

The GES added, that Equipment has been procured for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices to print the exams questions.

Common Core Program (CCP)

The GES indicated, that it has begun plans towards the Training of JHS Teachers on the New Curriculum for JHS to SHS known as Common Core Program (CCP) and will be done before schools resume fully.

Promotions

Speaking on Promotion of Teachers to the various ranks in the Ghana Education Service, the GES said it shall soon release the advert for promotion to the various ranks and promotion exams shall be conducted before the end 2020.

Past Questions

The  GES said the past question booklets given to all Junior High Schools are for the schools and students needed to be taken through to prepare them on the structure of the exam papers and NOT Necessarily to expect the questions from the booklet in their final exams.

Further Studies

The GES said  Teachers going for Further studies should pursue courses that are relevant to the profession before they can be upgraded.

Allowances

Speaking on the Responsibility allowances of Headteachers at the Basic Schools, the GES said all Basic School Heads’ Responsibility Allowance have been restored.

The employer added, that headteachers whose allowances have not been worked on can make specific cases through their various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices.

 

Unqualified BECE Candidates

The Ghana Education Service cautioned Headteachers who are found of registering candidates from Private schools and lower classes from some Public Schools for a fee.

The GES said headteachers in such acts should desist from that or shall be punished when caught.

 

School Selection

Speaking on the selection of schools, the GES said it has been informed that some heads refuse to take candidates through the selection because of their failure to pay PTA Levies.

The GES cautioned, that the Parents and Teachers Association ( PTA) is not part of the GES system and for that matter heads caught will be dealt with accordingly.

Media Interviews

The Ghana Education Service has cautioned teachers not to grant interviews to any media house.

The GES said any school that has been visited by any media house should direct them to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices.

Submission of Lists

The Ghana Education Service said headteachers should compile a list of Subject teachers at the school level as well as JHS 2 Students to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Offices.
