EducationGhana, July 21, PTA: Teachers at the Basic and Senior High/Technical Schools in the country are expected to be excluded as members of the Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs).
Information gathered by EducationGhana’s Ellis Ferdinand suggests that some district Education directorates have begun issuing directives to schools to exclude teachers from being members of the PTAs.
Teachers who want to be part of the PTA according to information gathered, are teachers whose children were in the schools.

Change in Name
According to sources close to Education Ghana, the name Shall be changed to Parents Association (PA) from the usual Parents and Teachers Association(PTA).
Purpose of Change of Name
According to reports, the reason for the change of name is to allow parents take decisions freely without necessarily involving teachers.
It has been argued, that the teacher’s involvement mostly led to the sending of students home for dues and other PTA levies.

Public Outcry
Speaking with some Teachers on the change of name, the Teachers believed the decision to change the name and exclude teachers, was a misplaced priority.
