The National Teaching Council (NTC) has suspended the Portfolio Assessment of 2021 Newly Qualified Teachers from the Colleges of Education.

The NTC in its earlier schedule indicated that the portfolio assessment shall begin October 4, 2021.

But in a related statement issued by the immediate past president of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), Augustine Appiah, the NTC said the portfolio assessment shall be rescheduled to a later date which was yet to be communicated to the Newly Qualified Teachers.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT TO BE SUSPENDED UNTIL 6 FURTHER NOTICE.

HERE’S THE OUTCOME OF THE MEETING WITH THE REGISTRAR OF THE NATIONAL TEACHING COUNCIL (NTC)

On this day 28th September 2021, I together with some present and immediate past executives of TTAG met with the Registrar of the National Teaching Council (NTC), Dr Christian Addai Poku to discuss issues surrounding the Portfolio Assessment of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) who are currently doing their National Service.

We presented to him concerns that have been raised by the majority of the NQTs about this whole new development and the need therefore to suspend the whole process. I wish to communicate the outcome of the meeting as concerns the Newly Qualified Teachers

After presenting our major concerns, the Registrar acknowledged the fact that the concerns raised were genuine and, as such, the need to consider a second thought on the Portfolio Assessment and its requirements.

He assured us that he would meet the management of NTC to take a decision about our request. We requested that the assessment which was meant to commence on the 4th October 2021 should be postponed until the outcome of the meeting is communicated to us. He granted this request and made it known that until the outcome of his meeting with management is communicated, no portfolio assessor would come to any school to assess anyone.

I wish to assure all NQT’s to remain calm as we wait for the outcome of this meeting which would be communicated very soon, hopefully by the end of the week.

The necessary actions would be taken after the outcome of the meeting is made known. We will never rest in ensuring that the voice and the ordeals of the NQTs are heard and well attended to. Let us all stay united as we make headway to ensuring that we are treated in a fair and just manner.

Augustine Appiah (Immediate Past President, TTAG)
