Ferdinand | EducationGhana | December 10 | JUST IN: KNUST Student Redesigns Generational Mathematical Set With Eco-Friendly Local Materials
A third-year IT student at KNUST, Sabbathsian A. Bonsu, has developed a redesigned Generational Mathematical Set made entirely from local eco-friendly materials, aiming to reduce import dependence and cut costs for Ghanaian families.KNUST Student Innovates With New Eco-Friendly Mathematical Set
A student innovator at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has gained attention for creating a locally produced version of the Generational Mathematical Set. Sabbathsian A. Bonsu, who is in his third year studying Information Technology, explained that the project grew out of a desire to offer a practical and sustainable alternative to imported learning tools.Designed With Local Materials
According to Bonsu, the redesigned set uses affordable, environmentally friendly materials sourced within Ghana. The intention is to provide students with a durable study tool while encouraging local production. He noted that the cost of mathematical sets has risen in recent years, placing pressure on parents and schools.Reducing Import Dependence
Bonsu stated that one of his long-term goals is to contribute to a gradual reduction in the country’s reliance on imported stationery. He believes that Ghana has the capacity to manufacture simple educational tools at scale, which can support local industries and reduce recurrent expenses for families.A Vision For Jobs And Youth Innovation
He hopes that the innovation will grow into a small production hub that can provide jobs for young people with interest in craftsmanship, design, and technology. He added that the project also demonstrates how students can translate academic learning into practical solutions with real social value.Growing Interest On Campus
Several lecturers and students at KNUST have expressed interest in the prototype. Some have suggested that the redesigned set could be refined further and introduced to basic and secondary schools if it attracts the needed support.Discover more from EducationGhana
