EducationGhana, August 6, GNAT: Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Executives at East Akim and Atiwa District are being alleged to have embezzled GH¢ 200,000.00 Mutual fund contributions in the Eastern Region.
Reports suggest that the Executives who allegedly embezzled the mutual funds are vying for Eastern Regional GNAT positions.
A statement issued by Justice Ayigbenyo, a GNAT member from the Kibi East Akim District indicated that Amo Johnson Anom the then Atiwa – East Akim Chairman, Mr Patrick Boison, the then Atiwa East Akim Vice-Chairman are being accused of a GH¢ 200,000.00 mutual fund diversion, which was meant to purchase 50 acres of land bought to be demarcated into 220 plots so that GNAT members within the Atiwa – East Akim District could purchase these plots of land.

Diversion
Information indicated that instead of the GH¢ 200,000.00 loan secured to be paid into Atiwa East Akim GNAT District account, the monies were diverted into different accounts where Mr Patrick Boison and Mr Amo Johnson Anom were the only signatories to the said account although the loan was secured in the name of Atiwa East Akim GNAT District.

Purchase of Land
However, the report indicated that only 49 plots of the land have been purchased by the teachers.
Also, some teachers although have made part payment for the plots, have not been given any plots.
”Furthermore, some of the teachers who have fully paid their monies and have been given their plots of land cannot access the site because there is litigation on the land.” The statement said.
Probe
The members of the association are demanding urgent address within the stipulated time or action will be taken against the association Executives and the mutual fund to show their displeasure of injustice meted out to GNAT in Atiwa and East Akim and every contributor of the mutual fund.
Mr Amo Johnson Anom and Mr Patrick Boison are warned not to aspire for any executive position in the Eastern Region
The members are calling the Economic and Organise Crime Office (EOCO) to amicably intervene in the issue before August, 4th to 6th 2021 Elections in Eastern Region, Koforidua.
