Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu inaugurates the new University of Ghana Governing Council, with Mrs Marietta Brew appointed as Chair to steer the institution towards global academic excellence.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has officially inaugurated the reconstituted Governing Council of the University of Ghana (UG), charging members to uphold the institution’s status as a leading global centre of academic excellence.
The brief ceremony, held in Accra, brought together senior officials, stakeholders, and members of the University community. In his address, Hon. Iddrisu urged the newly constituted Council to provide strategic leadership that enhances the University’s research, teaching, and administrative standards.
“As the flagship university of our nation, the University of Ghana must lead in shaping innovation, policy, and global academic standards. The work of this Council is therefore vital to the success of Ghana’s entire tertiary education sector,” the Minister said.
The newly appointed Chair of the Council, Mrs Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, expressed her gratitude for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work collaboratively with the University’s management.

“UG remains the bedrock of higher education in Ghana. I am committed to working hand in hand with stakeholders, with a spirit of dedication and visionary leadership, to move the University forward,” Mrs Brew stated in her acceptance speech.
The reconstituted Governing Council includes a blend of experienced academics, professionals, and policy experts. Members are:
Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Naa Dr Alhassan Andani, Dr Kwesi Amakye-Boateng, Ms Precious Kyei Bonsu, Dr Abdul Karim Hatsu, Ms Doris Kisiwa Ansah, Prof. Nana Akua Anyidoho, Mr Michael Owusu Ansah, Mr John Dadzie Mensah, Prof. Folassade Tolulope, Rev. Fr Stephen Owusu Sekyere, Mr George Agyekum Donkor, Ms Tina Sackeyfio, Major Daniel Ablorh-Quarcoo (Rtd), Mrs Yvette Adounvo Atekpe, Dr Inusah Abdul-Nasiru, Mr Maradona Adjei Yeboah, Mr Bright Amansiah and Mr Benjamin Nkumsah.
Their appointment marks a renewed chapter in the governance of Ghana’s premier university, with expectations high for strategic direction and impactful reforms.
