Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has committed to tackling land encroachment issues at UEW by collaborating with the Lands Commission to secure the university’s assets.
Government to Protect UEW’s Lands from Illegal Encroachment
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is currently grappling with significant land encroachment, which poses a threat to its growth and academic facilities.
In a meeting with UEW’s administration on February 24, 2025, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu assured the university that the government would intervene to safeguard its legally owned property.
Addressing Illegal Land Grabbing
Hon. Iddrisu recognized that land encroachment has emerged as a serious issue for universities across Ghana, stating:
“The government will act promptly to ensure that UEW’s lands are legally protected. I will personally work with the Lands Commission to implement enforcement measures,” he stressed.
The Minister instructed UEW leadership to provide all necessary documentation to enable prompt action, ensuring the university maintains full control over its assets.
