The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has rolled out another major contribution to basic education through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that targeted deprived schools in the Oti and Volta regions. In early October 2025, the association donated learning and welfare items to 75 needy but academically promising pupils. The donation, according to GNAT officials, forms part of the union’s broader commitment to improving access to quality education and addressing material shortages that affect pupils in rural communities.Three Schools Benefit From Essential Supplies
The 75 beneficiaries were selected from three deprived primary schools, each receiving a package that included school uniforms, knapsacks, and basic stationery. The items are expected to reduce the financial burden on families while helping pupils maintain their focus on academic work.Teachers in the beneficiary schools noted that several of the pupils had been struggling with inadequate school supplies, a challenge that often affects attendance, confidence, and overall classroom engagement.Enhancing Teaching and Learning in Rural Communities
GNAT highlighted that the initiative is designed to improve equity in education by ensuring that children in underserved communities are not left behind. The association reaffirmed that improving learning outcomes begins with addressing basic needs that directly influence performance and motivation.Education stakeholders in the region welcomed the intervention, noting that small but meaningful support of this kind often produces lasting positive effects on children’s participation and learning.GNAT Reaffirms Commitment to Educational Equity
The leadership of GNAT explained that the organisation will continue to advocate for equal opportunities for Ghanaian children regardless of their socioeconomic background or location. The association plans to expand its CSR outreach to additional schools as part of its long-term strategy for teacher-led community development. The donation event has been described by educators as a timely reminder of the union’s role not only in championing teachers’ rights but also in supporting the broader educational system.Related Links
