GES meets Teacher Unions today over Poor Working Conditions

EducationGhana, August 20, GES: The Ghana Education Service (GES) is meeting with Teacher Unions today to discuss some pertinent issues being raised by the unions in an August 10, 2021 press release.
The Unions include the Ghanan National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers -Ghana (CCT-GH).
The GES in a letter dated August 19, 2021, and signed by its Deputy Director-General in Charge of Quality and Assurance, Anthony Boateng for the Director-General to the leadership of the three unions said he has been directed by the Director-General to invite them to a meeting on Friday 20th August 2021 at 8:00 am at the Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters, Accra.

Purpose
The meeting is expected to deliberate on your Press Statement dated 10 August 2021 and related issues.
Background

Pre-tertiary teacher unions are set to call for industrial action in September ending should the Ghana Education Service (GES) decline their call for a favourable condition of service.

The Teacher Unions, namely the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT-GH) made this announcement in a joint statement on August 10, 2021.

The Unions indicated, said they are serving notice that if by the close of September 2021, all their requests are not resolved in full by the employer, then they will have no option than to advise ourselves in the best interest of our members within the framework of their Collective Agreement and the applicable laws of Ghana.
