GES Interdicts Okadjakrom SHTS Teacher Over Alleged Misconduct

GES has interdicted Mr. Mfo Richard Tibetor, a teacher at Okadjakrom SHTS, over alleged sexual misconduct. The case raises concerns about teacher conduct and social media allegations.

GES Takes Action

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Mr. Mfo Richard Tibetor, a teacher at Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, over alleged sexual misconduct involving a female student. In a statement dated 2nd October 2025, the GES said it had taken note of a disturbing video circulating on social media allegedly involving the teacher in a compromising situation.According to the release signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, Mr. Tibetor has been interdicted and prohibited from entering the school premises pending further investigations.

GES Statement Highlights

  1. GES described the alleged conduct as “unacceptable, unethical, and a clear violation of the professional code of conduct for teachers.”
  2. Management assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the safety and protection of students remain a top priority.
  3. It cautioned that any teacher found guilty of acts that compromise student dignity and wellbeing will face the full rigours of the law.
  4. GES reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and child protection across all schools in Ghana.

Broader Concerns About Teacher Conduct

The incident adds to a growing number of cases in which teacher conduct has come under scrutiny, particularly in the age of social media where videos and allegations can spread widely before investigations conclude.Education expert and curriculum specialist Ferdinand Ellis noted that while misconduct should never be overlooked, there is also the need for caution in handling such cases.“With unrestricted access to mobile devices, students can record and share content at any time, whether genuine or fabricated. Society is quick to amplify a teacher’s mistakes but rarely highlights the positive impact we make,” he said.Mr. Ellis further advised teachers to exercise vigilance, maintain professional boundaries, and avoid situations that could lead to public ridicule.

The Way Forward

Stakeholders have called for speedy and transparent investigations into the case, with due process followed in line with the GES Code of Conduct. Teacher unions are also expected to monitor developments closely as issues of professionalism, welfare, and protection of students remain central to Ghana’s education sector.
