GES Holds Maiden Ghana History Festival 2025 at Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Ghana Education Service has held the maiden Ghana History Festival 2025 at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, celebrating national history, culture, and Kwame Nkrumah’s enduring legacy.

A Celebration of Ghana’s Heritage

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has successfully organised the first-ever Ghana History Festival on Tuesday, 30th September 2025, at the historic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra. The event was held under the theme: “Kwame Nkrumah’s Legacy – Igniting National Consciousness through History.”

The festival sought to highlight the importance of history in shaping national identity, unity, and pride, while also engaging learners in meaningful cultural and historical education.

Distinguished Guests in Attendance

The event was graced by Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (MS) of the GES, whose presence inspired learners, educators, and stakeholders. The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Allotey, was also represented, sharing goodwill messages with participants.

This festival reflects GES’s renewed commitment to heritage education in schools, which aligns with Ghana’s broader vision of strengthening patriotism through curriculum and extracurricular activities (GES Curriculum Reforms).

Colourful Performances by Learners

The programme opened with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Bishop Mixed and Bishop Girls’ Schools, setting a patriotic tone for the day.

• Learners from Bishop Girls’ Basic School, Accra Metro, delivered vibrant cultural displays.
• Pupils from the Ministry of Health KG, Korle-Bu, re-enacted historic moments including The Big Six, the CPP Movement, and Ghana’s Steps to Freedom.

A highlight of the day came from Services Primary & JHS, Burma Camp, whose presentation traced Ghana’s political journey through the Heads of State and Presidents since independence.

The event was further electrified by stirring brass band performances from Accra Girls’ Senior High School and PRESEC, Legon, leaving the audience immersed in deep national pride.

Kwame Nkrumah’s Legacy Revisited

The Ghana History Festival was not only a cultural display but also a living classroom, reminding learners of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s enduring legacy and his role in igniting national consciousness.
