EducationGhana, July 23, #FixGES: Teachers in the Public Basic and Senior High Schools are calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to as a matter of urgency wake up to the challenges of the profession.
The teachers in a hashtag #FixGES campaign on Socal media lamented the continuous neglect of the possible challenges being faced in schools by their employer, the GES.
Curriculum Implementation
Accccording to the teachers, the introduction of the Standard-based curriculum in 2019 with its corresponding challenges including the inability of the GES to produce textbooks, teachers handbooks and learners workbooks to aid learning in the schools was their major challenge.
They added, that the GES and the Ministry of Education led by its Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP) were not perturbed about the challenges, but rather emphasizing the use of Teachers Resource Packs as reference materials for teaching and learning.

Insfrastructural Challeneges
The teachers added, that most schools in Ghana are using classrooms that are at their worst conditions.
The teachers said, in some schools, the students sit on the bare floor to learn whilst the authorities who were aware f the challenges sit unconcerned.
Salary Arrears
The teachers further lamented on the continuous neglect of the government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to pay them their salary arrears.

Promotions
In addition, the teachers are calling on the Ghana Education Service to work on their promotion challenges.
The teachers argued that even after writing their promotion exams, that Gnana Educati0n Service has not given them was due them even after being successful in the exams.
Upgradings
Speaking on their upgrading to higher ranks, that teachers said the GES has intentionally ignored their applications to be upgraded to their higher ranks after obtaining Bachelors and varied Education fields.
Teacher Kwadwo’s Influence
One very popular individual promoting the agenda is Teacher Kwadwo, who starred the #FixGES hashtag to call the GES to order.
He uses his platform on social media to ex[pose some of the rots in the schools that need fixing as early as practically possible.
