About 400 pupils from basic schools in the Central region have undergone a day’s workshop on the Junior Graphic essay contest launched in the early part of March.
The competition, which is on the theme: “Reading wide, writing right, Key to excellence” will be accepting entries from pupils across the country till April 30, 2019.
Pupils participating in the contest are to write topics such as sexual abuse, Sustainable Development Goals and corporal punishment.
Mrs Hagan said the topics were carefully selected to help children to be part in addressing issues affecting their societies and the country as a whole.
“We expect well researched and well-written essays from you all,” she said, adding that similar workshops have been organised for pupils in Koforidua, Ho, Tamale, Bolga and Takoradi.
The Junior Graphic Essay competition is being sponsored this year by Bic Pens, SDG Advisory Unit of the Office of the President, Ghana Library Authority, Graidup, Cocoa Processing Company Limited and Picadally Biscuits Limited.
The workshops is to help students understanding better what makes a good essay, the dos and don’ts in essay writing, and the appropriate use of idiomatic expression among others.
Nana Adjei, a Proof Reader with the Daily Graphic took the children through keys to writing a good essay.
The Zonal Manager for the Western and Central region of GCGL, Mrs Memunatu Mahama said GCGL would continue to support the educational of particularly the nation’s youth.
