 Accra Technical University’s Faculty of Engineering has organised a seminar to build research capacity, improve grant writing skills, and promote innovation among lecturers, advancing the University’s research agenda.

Event Highlights Grant Acquisition, Research Collaboration, and AI IntegrationThe Faculty of Engineering at Accra Technical University has held a seminar aimed at strengthening the research abilities of its lecturers. The programme, which took place on November 20, 2025, at the Amatrol Multimedia Lab, provided practical guidance on grant writing and strategies to enhance research productivity.

Focus on Grant Writing for Academic Advancement

Opening the session, the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix Kutsanedzie, encouraged lecturers to cultivate a stronger interest in grant writing. He explained that grants provide not only financial support but also avenues for collaboration, wider impact, and sustained academic progress.The Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Tina D. Wemegah, outlined plans to expand research activity across the Faculty. She stressed the need to build a strong grant-writing culture, promote interdepartmental collaboration, and improve the University’s visibility and ranking through impactful research.

Expert Guidance on Securing Competitive Grants

A detailed technical presentation was delivered by Dr. Peter Nyanor, Director of Research, Innovation, Publication, and Technology Transfer. His session covered the grant application cycle, strategies for developing winning proposals, and the role of grants as alternative revenue sources for universities worldwide. He urged faculty members to pursue grant opportunities actively to boost the University’s research profile.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Research

Participants were also introduced to the role of Artificial Intelligence in research support. Mr. Obed Oduro demonstrated AI tools that assist with literature search, data processing, and manuscript development. The demonstration highlighted the growing importance of technology in modern academic work.

Showcasing Faculty Research Output

The seminar ended with a presentation of ongoing research projects and publications across the Faculty. Lecturers from civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering departments showcased innovations and emerging studies that contribute to national development.The Faculty noted that the seminar is part of a broader effort to promote a vibrant research culture and equip staff with the skills needed to pursue competitive local and international grants.
