The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Abetifi Office has organized an educational excursion for students of Abetifi Anglican Junior High School (JHS) to visit the renowned Abetifi Stone Age Park in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The visit, aimed at enhancing historical and cultural education, provided students with a unique opportunity to explore one of Ghana’s most significant archaeological and historical sites.

Exploring Ghana’s Prehistoric Past

The Abetifi Stone Age Park is an important site known for its ancient rock shelters, stone tools, pottery, and other remnants of early human settlements. These artifacts provide crucial insights into prehistoric life and the early inhabitants of the area.

Accompanied by tour guide Mr. Kissi, the students explored various sections of the park, gaining a deeper understanding of the lifestyles, tools, and traditions of Ghana’s Stone Age communities.

Interactive Learning Experience

During the tour, students engaged actively by asking insightful questions about the artifacts and archaeological discoveries. The NCCE Abetifi team provided additional historical context, emphasizing the significance of the site in Ghana’s cultural and historical heritage.

The students expressed excitement and curiosity, as they learned how early humans survived, crafted tools, and built communities long before modern civilization.

Educators Laud Initiative

The Assistant Headmistress of Abetifi Anglican JHS, Madam Bernice Denkyi, expressed profound gratitude to the NCCE Abetifi Office for organizing the educational trip. She praised the initiative, stating that it would greatly benefit students by enhancing their academic performance and helping them appreciate Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

“This excursion has provided our students with real-world historical experiences that will help them understand and retain their studies better,” she noted.

Promoting Cultural Awareness and Education

The NCCE’s initiative aligns with efforts to promote civic education, cultural awareness, and national heritage preservation. By organizing such educational tours, the commission ensures that Ghanaian students develop a strong appreciation for history, archaeology, and cultural identity.

The Abetifi Anglican JHS excursion to the Stone Age Park was a memorable and impactful learning experience. The visit allowed students to connect with history in an engaging way, reinforcing the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural and archaeological sites.
