Qualifications for the Position

 

To be eligible for appointment as Principal of a Public College of Education in Ghana, a candidate must meet the following qualifications and selection criteria:

1. Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Must hold a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or an equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field.

  • Must be a distinguished scholar and master teacher with a recognised track record in teaching and academic leadership.

  • Must hold an academic rank not below Associate Professor in a College of Education, a university, or a comparable institution.

2. Experience

  • At leastten (10) years of progressive experience in teaching and/or research in tertiary education.

  • At least five (5) years in a senior management or leadership role, such as Dean, Vice Principal, or Director, demonstrating the ability to manage people, processes, and institutions.

3. Leadership and Administrative Competence

  • Proven ability to provide strategic and transformational leadership in a higher education institution.

  • Experience in managing academic, administrative, and financial resources effectively.

  • Must be capable of leading research and innovation efforts to enhance institutional development.

  • Strong capacity for building partnerships, attracting grants, and engaging with national and international stakeholders.

6. Age and Tenure Requirements

  • Applicants must be below 55 years at the time of application.

  • The appointment tenure is four (4) years, renewable for another term based on performance and institutional needs.

Qualified candidates are to submit a complete application pack including:

  • A cover letter

  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • A Vision Statement (max. 2 pages)

Applications must be submitted to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) by Friday, 25th April, 2025.
