The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it will release the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates’ results in due course.
This assurance comes following the government’s intervention through the Ministry of Education (MoE) with an additional funding of GH₵25 million to facilitate the council’s operations.
The Ministry of Education confirmed the disbursement of GH₵25 million to WAEC to ensure the seamless continuation of marking and processing activities for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“The Ministry of Education has released an additional GH₵25 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to support its operations and ensure the smooth and seamless continuation of marking activities. WAEC has assured the Ministry that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released soon,” a spokesman for the MoE said.
GES Confident in Timely Results Release
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, has expressed optimism that WAEC will release the provisional results before the end of December 2024.
“We are sure the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School results will be released possibly before the year ends,” Dr. Nkansah told an Accra-based media outlet.
Concerns from Private Schools
Private Senior High Schools, under the umbrella of the Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools (CHOPSS), have raised concerns over the delay in releasing the results. They argue that their candidates, having fulfilled all financial obligations, should not be adversely affected by delays linked to government debts owed to WAEC.
CHOPSS has warned that it may collaborate with parents and students to take further action if the results are not released in the coming days, describing the current delay as unacceptable.
