Ferdinand | EducationGhana | November 08| 2024 WASSCE Results Expected Between December 9-15, WAEC Cites Potential Delay Due to Funding Issues
“WAEC announces the provisional release date for 2024 WASSCE results between December 9 and 15, citing possible delays due to government funding issues.”
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the provisional results for students who took the 2024 WASSCE for School are set to be released between December 9 and December 15, 2024. This update, given by WAEC spokesperson John Kapi in an interview.
The marking of examination scripts is expected to conclude by November 29, 2024, paving the way for the timely release of results. However, Kapi emphasized that the anticipated timeline for releasing the results remains tentative, as the process may face delays due to a shortfall in government funding.
Funding Challenges and Potential Delays
Kapi highlighted that despite initial financial support of GH¢60.9 million provided by the government to commence the examination process, the total budget for the 2024 WASSCE for School was GH¢186,437,617.50. The outstanding balance has yet to be paid, which poses a risk to completing the post-examination processes on schedule.
“Before the exam started, we indicated that the government had given us money to be able to conduct the examination, and the assurances were that once the exam was over, more releases would be made so that we would be able to go ahead with our post-examination activities,” Kapi said. “But as we speak, despite meetings that have been held, we still have not had any money hitting our account yet, and so our fear is that this would jeopardize the marking exercise.”
Candidate Statistics and Exam Overview
The 2024 WASSCE for School commenced on August 5, 2024, with the Visual Art Project work and concluded on September 20, 2024. The examination witnessed the participation of 460,611 candidates, including 212,954 males and 247,657 females, drawn from 1,003 Senior High Schools across Ghana. The test was administered at 1,000 centres nationwide.
WAEC’s commitment to releasing the results on time is evident, yet the organization’s ability to adhere to the planned schedule is contingent on the resolution of funding issues. This development has raised concerns among candidates and educational stakeholders who await the outcomes to plan for further education and career decisions.
Conclusion
The 2024 WASSCE results play a critical role in shaping the academic futures of thousands of students. While WAEC strives to maintain its December release schedule, funding challenges could necessitate adjustments. Stakeholders, including students, parents, and educators, are urged to stay informed and prepared for any updates from WAEC regarding the final release date.
