Haven’t received your salary as a newly posted or recruited teacher in Ghana? Here are the real reasons behind the delay and what steps you must take to get paid.
📌 Salary Delays: A Growing Concern Among New Teachers
Many newly posted and recruited teachers across various regions in Ghana have gone months without receiving their first salary—despite reporting to their stations, performing duties, and submitting the required documents. The problem is frustrating and disheartening, especially when basic needs like rent and transportation must be met.
So, why haven’t you been paid yet?
Let’s break it down.
❗1. Staff ID Not Yet Generated
Your Staff ID is the first official gateway to salary processing. Without it, your name won’t even enter the payroll system.
Why the delay?
- Late submission of assumption of duty forms to the District Education Office
- Backlog at the IPPD (Integrated Personnel and Payroll Database) centre
- Failure of HR officers to forward your documents on time
- Inaccurate or missing details in your documents
👉 Tip: Confirm from your district office whether your assumption form and particulars have been forwarded to the regional office or GES Headquarters.
❗2. Assumption of Duty Forms Not Properly Endorsed
Some teachers submit forms that are either:
- Not signed by the Headteacher,
- Missing official stamps,
- Or have wrong dates.
📌 GES won’t process any form that lacks authenticity. Always double-check your forms before submission.
❗3. Your Name Was Not Included in the Initial Payroll Batch
GES often processes newly recruited teachers in batches. If your name wasn’t captured in the first or second list, you’ll have to wait until the next salary batch is uploaded and approved.
❗4. Your Posting Was Delayed or Discrepancies Exist
If you reported late, or if there’s a mismatch between your:
- Staff name on the posting letter and that on your documents,
- Financial clearance number and your GES record,
then your salary could be suspended until resolved.
❗5. Pending Financial Clearance Validation
Even though the Ministry of Finance may have issued financial clearance, sometimes GES must revalidate these clearances before final processing.
This becomes a bottleneck when:
- Some regional offices have not submitted validation lists
- Others are yet to receive approval confirmation
❗6. You’re In a Region With Backlog or Bureaucratic Delay
Certain regions and districts—like Bono East, Upper West, and parts of the Eastern Region—have seen systemic delays in processing salary data due to administrative bottlenecks.
❗7. “Expired Clearance” Claims by Some GES Officers
A common yet false claim reported by teachers is being told that their clearance has “expired.”
🚫 FACT: If your financial clearance was issued in your year of posting and you reported on time, it is valid. Don’t fall for this excuse.
💡 What to Do Immediately
Step Action ✅ Confirm your posting and assumption forms are correctly endorsed ✅ Visit the district IPPD/HR office to check the status of your staff ID ✅ Keep copies of all documents submitted ✅ Join official GES teacher platforms for updates ✅ Contact GES Regional or Headquarters Payroll Department ✅ Avoid middlemen or scammers who claim they can “fast-track” salaries
📢 GES Response So Far
The Ghana Education Service has acknowledged delays in some regions and assured teachers that efforts are being made to fast-track staff ID generation and salary processing. They advise teachers to remain patient but proactive in following up through appropriate channels.
