Ferdinand | EducationGhana | June 2 | Vice Chairman of ATAG calls for investigation into alleged financial misappropriation by Chairman
The Vice-chairman of All Teachers Alliance Ghana (ATAG), Mr Dzadey Sitsofe Micheal, who doubles as a member of the Board of Directors of the association, has given some cautionary statements to members of the association in relation to the mismanagement and corrupt practices employed by the chairman of the association.
In a press release issued by the vice-chairman on Sunday, the 24th of May, 2020, he indicated that the chairman of the association ought to be investigated thoroughly, as certain things are not right with his mode of operating the association. “As the vice-chairman of the association, I have never seen a copy of the association’s account statement; whether the accounts have been audited or not, I’m not aware,” he emphasized.
According to the vice-chairman of the recently formed Teachers’ Association, the chairman of the association has clearly deviated from the main idea on which the association was formed. “The association was formed so that the grassroots members would be relieved of any unfavourable treatment by our employees and from what was believed to be a lackadaisical attitude on the part of the already existing unions in relation to handling problems of teachers.
However, contradictory to this motive, the chairman of the association has deviated from the main motive,” he added. Mr. Dzadey, who, according to his statements, was part of those who registered the association, has since that time not been given a copy of the registration documents upon several requests made from 2016 to date.
He also added that during the time of registration at the Labour Department, he signed as the General Secretary of the association, but the chairman forcibly changed his position to Vice-Chairman so that he would not be a signatory to the association’s accounts.
Mr Dzadey again stated that upon resisting some of these acts of omission by the chairman, the chairman has unilaterally suspended the National PRO of the association and kept him in the dark with respect to the day-to-day activities of the association.
“The constitution of the association, which is supposed to be the supreme document of the association too, has blatantly been disregarded by the chairman for reasons best known to him even though the chairman was ordered by the Chief Labour Officer in 2019 to strictly follow the constitution at all times”,. says the vice-chairman.

The vice-chairman claims that he, together with other directors of the association, petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation (EOCO), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and the office of the Special Prosecutor, but has not received any positive feedback.
He clarified that he is doing all these to clear his image and further dissociate himself from the corruption involved in the association. He, therefore, used the opportunity to caution the members that their funds is not in safe hands and hence should use their discretion in this regard until everything gets back to normal.
He further called on relevant stakeholders as well as state institutions to intervene in order to get to the root of this matter. So far as the funds involved are funds from Ghanaian citizens, I believe the Auditor General can step in and conduct a forensic audit into the record books of the association in order to unravel the mystery and financial malfeasance the Chairman has entangled himself with.
