Striking Teachers have responded to a comment made by the chairman of the Ghana Education Service Council, which suggests that new teachers shall be employed if the teachers did not call off their two-day old strike.
The Chairman of the GES Council, Michael Nsowah, who issued the threat in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, said should the teachers continue to their industrial action, the state will be forced to employ new teachers.
But Striking Teachers advised the GES to use monies meant for employing new teachers to settle their Legacy Salary Arrears in full .
The teachers said they shall only return to the classroom when they see evidence of their monies in their Bank accounts.
The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) ,Philippa Larsen also said Teachers were disappointed in the Ghana Education Service.
She added that the trust for the Ghana Education Service has reduced,an indication of mistrust for the GES and a possible continuation of the strike action until their accounts felt their salary arrears.
