The University of Professional Studies, Accra SRC Women’s Commission (UPSA-WoCoM), as part of its social responsibility, has donated to the St. James Anglican Basic School, Teiman, in the Nkwantanan District of the Greater Accra Region.
Among items that were donated were 300 units of exercise books, 200 text books, 50 bottles of disinfectants, a sack of powdered detergents, 10 packs of t-rolls, 60 pens and 120 pencils.
The UPSA SRC Women’s Commissioner, Ms. Beverly Benewaa Appiah, acknowledged that the act was part of fulfilling her policies that she promised students when she was voted into power.
‘‘The main reason why we are doing this donation is just to give back to society because we remember we told students that when we come into power, this will be part of our policies and God being so good we fulfilled it’’
Receiving the items, assistant headmaster of the school, Mr. Osei Bonsu, expressed his appreciation to the kind gesture done them by the SRC Women’s Commission.
He emphasized on the importance of these items to the sanitary needs of the females in particular and more so, the education of the pupils on a whole.
‘‘We are grateful for all that you’ve done for us this afternoon, as I said we hope that this is not going to be a nine day wonder and as Oliver Twist always say, we ask for more. This items are going to help us a lot, especially the t-rolls are going to help the girls and then the books, especially the text books in practicals, are going to help us in academic work’’.
Why St. James Anglican Basic School, Teiman?
According to Ms. Beverly Benewaa Appiah, they settled on the school after a consulting lawyer and National Democratic Congress’ candidate for Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu.
She added that they realized that the school was in need and decided to assist and to cater for the school’s educational needs and also encourage learning among the pupils.
