Ho Technical University students win $20,000 in the KIC AgriTech Challenge – PRO with their innovative “Soysages” product, highlighting the university’s entrepreneurial spirit.
Innovative Soysages Secure Victory for DEECOM Nutrifoods Ltd.
A team of three innovative students from Ho Technical University (HTU) clinched a $20,000 cash prize in the KIC AgriTech Challenge – PRO. Their winning project, “Soysages,” is a unique protein alternative made from soybeans.

The victorious team, DEECOM Nutrifoods Ltd., comprises:

Competition Highlights
DEECOM Nutrifoods Ltd. emerged as one of the funded teams in the PRO Competition, standing out among 34 teams from nine universities nationwide. Two other teams from HTU, Husk Pack Ghana Ltd. and Hyfebee, also participated in the competition, showcasing the university’s strong entrepreneurial spirit.
Prize Presentation Ceremony
During a brief ceremony to present their prizes to the University Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, praised the teams for their remarkable achievements. He encouraged them to continue nurturing their ideas and developing their skills for future success.
Program Insights and Future Plans
Ms. Mawunyo Aziave, Programme Officer for KIC Volta Region, highlighted that the competition provided comprehensive business training and coaching to the students. Dr. Daniel Agbeko, Faculty Advisor, noted that the students’ success will inspire others to join the next cohort of the programme.
The triumphant team expressed their excitement about the grooming they received through the programme. They plan to use their prize money to further develop their innovative product and expand their business.
