A mini-bus carrying University of Education, Winneba (UEW) students to Kpando and Hohoe has been involved in a road accident near Peki, leaving one student dead and several others injured.
UEW Students Accident at Peki
A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a student from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) after a mini-bus carrying students to Kpando and Hohoe was involved in a crash near Peki on Saturday, September 20, 2025. According to eyewitness accounts, the bus was transporting the students back home when the accident occurred. While the cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed, police and emergency responders quickly moved to the scene to convey victims to nearby health facilities.
One Fatality, Several Injuries
Sadly, one student was confirmed dead on the spot. Scores of others sustained various degrees of injury ranging from fractures to minor cuts. They were rushed to the Peki Government Hospital and other nearby facilities for medical attention. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased, pending official communication with the family.
UEW Management Responds
Management of the University of Education, Winneba has expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and reassured the public that it is working closely with medical teams and local authorities to provide support for the injured. In a brief statement, officials noted: “This is a difficult moment for the UEW community. We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family and continue to pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured.”
Road Safety Concerns
The accident once again raises concerns about road safety in Ghana, particularly along the Eastern Corridor road network. Education-related accidents involving students remain a national concern, with calls intensifying for improved transport systems and stricter road safety enforcement.
