Teachers clash with Education Directorate over Compulsory Teachers’ Welfare dues

EducationGhana, May 21, Tepa: Teachers in Tepa, Ahafo-Ano district are accusing their District Education Directorate of allegedly exhorting monies from them in the name of Welfare Fund.

The teachers describe the situation as being tormented by the current Education Director.

The Accusations

In an exclusive interview with EducationGhana’s    Ellis Ferdinand, some of the teachers alleged, that ever since the Director assumed office in 2020, he has been constantly threatening and intimidating the teachers in the District.

The teachers alleged, that the first form of intimidation from the director was welfare due which has been forced on the teachers in the District.

The Fight for Justice

The teachers indicated, that upon hearing of the decision by the director to impose the welfare fund on there, there have been several agitations from the teachers to stop the welfare fund.

 

”At a meeting, which occurred a couple of weeks ago, a teacher asked the Director if it was compulsory to belong to that Welfare. This particular question got the Director very angry and he nearly assaulted the teacher for asking a legitimate question.” The teachers said.

Director’s Confirmation

The Director was alleged to have emphasized at the meeting that it was compulsory for teachers in the District to be in the welfare.

Heb was alleged to have said that should the teachers disagree, they shall be given a compulsory release or transfers.

The Precedence

Explaining their reasons for rejecting the alleged;y compulsory welfare fund, the teachers gave an incident that occurred where an amount of over 20,000 cedis was embezzled from the welfares account.

The Teachers in the district said they do not want to experience a repeated version of this, hence their decision.

Fresh Attack

The Director is being alleged to have launched a fresh attack on some schools in the district and has said in a closed meeting that he has plans to transfer some teachers who are on his list out from the district.
