EdcationGhana| March 28| School Placement can be changed after one Academic Year:
An official of the Ghana Education Service (GES) following the release of the 2021 computer school placement has told EducationWeb that a first-year student can change his or her enrolled school after one academic year.
His comment comes after we today asked him “if it is possible for candidates who sat for last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to change schools after the placement enrollment process has been completed.”
Responding to the question, the Ghana Education Service staff said “it will not be possible to change school now, adding that a first-year student can only do that after one academic year, a movement he described as school transfer.
“So for now you can not change your placed school, you can only do that after an academic year, any movement from one school to another after school placement enrollment is considered a transfer,” he told EducationWeb on Monday.
The National Coordinator of the Placement System (CSSPS) Mark Sasu Mensah Monday disclosed over 68% out of the 97% of BECE students who qualified for school placement have been placed into public 873 schools as of March 28.
In an interview with Accra-based Peace 104.5 FM Mr Mark Sasu Mensah, the National Coordinator of the CSSPS said adequate measures have been put in place by his outfit to place more students.

“A total of 571,892 students from over 18,000 Junior High Schools sat for the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Out of the total number, 68.74% have been placed into various secondary schools,” Sasu noted.
Asked if all candidates who sat for the national examination will be placed into available schools with vacancies, the CSSPS Coordinator replied ‘No’ citing that some of the students did not qualify for school placement this year.

“Technically if you had grade 9 in English Language or Mathematics you are not qualified to be placed so out of that some people were eliminated from the placement criteria,” Mark Sasu told the host of the Peace FM Kokrokoo show.
Describing the 2021 computer school placement process as successful and smooth, Mr Kwasi Kwarteng, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education said his outfit is committed to ensuring all qualified students are placed.
The spokesman told the host of the Kokrokoo show, Kwame Sefa Kayi, there are more school vacancies available in the self-placement module for students who did not get automatic placement and have been asked to do self-placement.
